ComicBook.com is a powerhouse in entertainment journalism, serving millions of dedicated fans with the latest news, reviews, and features on comics, movies, and gaming culture. As a high-traffic media outlet, their digital platform needs to provide an exceptional user experience (UX) while effectively integrating advertising. We were brought on board to execute a comprehensive graphic design and UX overhaul, aimed at modernising their brand identity and creating a more engaging, intuitive, and reader-friendly experience across all devices.

Challenge & Solution

The core challenge was to declutter the user interface and create a cleaner, more premium reading experience without compromising the site's extensive content library or crucial advertising revenue. The existing layout felt dated and busy, making it difficult for users to navigate and for featured content to stand out. The brand's visual identity also needed a contemporary refresh to better reflect its status as a leading voice in modern pop culture.

Our Process

Our process began with extensive user research, including analysing heatmaps and user session recordings from the existing site to identify key pain points. We then moved into a collaborative design phase, working closely with the ComicBook.com editorial and ad-ops teams to balance user needs with business requirements. We developed and A/B tested multiple interactive prototypes of the new article and homepage layouts, using real-world data to validate our design decisions. The final stage involved creating a comprehensive brand and UI toolkit, which we delivered to their in-house development team for implementation.

Result Driven

The UX and graphic design overhaul successfully revitalised the ComicBook.com platform, creating a more sophisticated and enjoyable experience for its millions of readers. The new design not only bolstered the site's aesthetic appeal but also delivered significant improvements in key performance metrics, proving that a user-centric design can directly benefit both readership and revenue. The cleaner interface was widely praised by the user community for its improved readability and navigation.
